Built by parents.
For everyone.
mathsolvers.io started as a weekend project. It grew into something we wish had existed when we needed it most.
Where it started
Our daughter was working through her maths homework one evening. She was stuck. We sat down to help — and quickly realised we couldn't. Not because the maths was beyond us, but because we'd forgotten how it was taught, and couldn't bridge the gap between the answer we knew and the method she needed to show.
We tried the tools that came up in search. Most just gave the answer. A few showed a formula. None of them explained why — none of them showed the step-by-step working in a way that actually helped us help her.
So we built one. Then another. Then another.
That's how mathsolvers.io started — not with a business plan or a market gap analysis, but with two parents sitting at a kitchen table wondering how to bridge the gap, and deciding to build something that would genuinely help.
Who we are
We're two parents with over 55 years of combined experience across investment banking, product design, and Government Digital Services (GDS). Neither of us is a classroom teacher or an academic mathematician — we're people who have spent our careers building accessible digital systems, analysing complex data, and working with numbers every day. Yet we still found ourselves stumped trying to bridge the gap between textbook methods and homework night at the kitchen table.
Design & Technology
Government Digital Services & UX
Applying decades of digital accessibility, clear content design, and user-centred architecture to build lightning-fast, distraction-free tools with intuitive step-by-step working.
Finance & Accuracy
Investment Banking & Analytics
Bringing institutional quantitative rigor to every formula, edge case, and calculation — ensuring compound interest, tax, rates, and algebraic logic match both the real world and curriculum standards.
The Real-World Test
The Homework Benchmark
Our daughter remains our chief tester and toughest critic. If she can't follow a solver's step breakdown independently without getting stuck, we go straight back to the drawing board and rewrite it until she can.
What we believe
Four core principles that guide everything we design, write, and build.
Answers alone don't teach anything
Every calculator on this site shows its working — every step, explained. Because if you just want the number, you have a calculator in your pocket. What you come here for is to understand how the number was reached.
Maths only clicks when you see why it matters
Every tool includes real-world context — not abstract examples, but the actual situations where this calculation appears in daily life. Compound interest on savings. Tyre pressure in PSI and bar. The true cost of a phone contract. Maths that connects to something real is maths that sticks.
Three people sit down to do homework
Every calculator page has three lenses: Learn it for the student, Teach it for teachers, and Understand it for the parent who wants to know what their child is actually studying — and how to help at home. That third lens exists because we needed it ourselves.
No barriers — it should just work
No account required. No paywall. No app to download. Works on any device, any browser. Your calculation history is stored only on your device — never sent to a server, never used for anything other than letting you review your working later.
What's on the site
mathsolvers.io has grown from those first few tools into a full library of practical resources — all built with the same focus on clear working and zero fluff.
Tools
Solvers, Calculators & Converters
Purpose-built tools that do far more than just give an answer — they break down every calculation with full column working, algebraic steps, and unit conversions.
Understanding
The Three Lenses
Clear breakdowns tailored to everyone around the table: Learn it for students, Teach it for educators, and Understand it in plain English for parents helping at home.
Reference & Starters
Formulas & Reference Tables
Print-ready formula sheets and math reference tables for quick revision, exams, and daily coursework, designed to reinforce core mathematical understanding and confidence.
Questions or feedback?
We built this because we needed it. If something isn't working, isn't clear, or if you'd like to see a calculator that doesn't exist yet — we'd genuinely like to hear from you.
